FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS




WHO CAN JOIN THE NATIVE MASTERCLASS?

The Native Masterclass is designed for photographers, storytellers and visual thinkers with 3 - 5 years of experience. The call is open to both members of Native and to photographers beyond the organization. A heavy priority will be given to Native members and people from under-represented communities.


AM I READY TO APPLY FOR THE MASTERCLASS?
Yes, you are! Even if you do not have 3 - 5 years of experience, if you are interested in participating in the program we highly encourage you to apply. This is an opportunity for you to grow, expand your career, and learn some of the trickier aspects of navigating the photo industry. The best way for us to know if this is the right fit for your skill level is for us to review your application.
 

HOW DO I APPLY?
  • Create a free account on the Visura platform.  
  • Review our open call and click the blue button titled, “create a submission”. 
  • Place all of the required application materials outlined in the open call in the Submission Statement / Story Text. You will upload your images and captions in the next step.

HOW DO I PAY?
If accepted into the program, details will be sent upon acceptance on how to pay to secure your spot in the program. There will be a two week grace period to provide payment. The fee is one-time, upfront, and will be accepted via PayPal, debit card, and credit card.


WHAT IF I’M APPLYING FOR A SCHOLARSHIP?
If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please clearly state that you would like to be considered for a scholarship in your letter of motivation. You may choose to write an additional statement of need explaining your financial situation in more detail. All of our scholarships are awarded based on the components in your application.


HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE MASTERCLASS?
The masterclass will be divided into four intensive one-day workshops that will take place every three months over one year. This inaugural program will run from October 2021 - July 2022.


IS THERE A SCHEDULE FOR THE SESSIONS?
Yes! Sessions will be divided into three workshops: INSPIRATION, OUTPUT, and THEORY.

Session 1 - Saturday, October 23rd, 2021
Session 2 - Saturday, January 22nd, 2022
Session 3 - Saturday, April 23rd, 2022
Session 4 - Saturday, July 23rd, 2022


WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN’T MAKE IT TO A LIVE SESSION?
You will get the most out of the program if you attend all four sessions live, however we understand things come up. All the sessions will be recorded and made available to participants, however we must receive two weeks' notice so we can prepare for you to watch them on your own time.
 

WHAT TYPE OF COMMITMENT IS REQUIRED?
All together, the Masterclass will require around a 32 hour commitment. To receive the certification at the end of the program you must have attended all four sessions or been in touch with us accordingly if you had to miss a session.

IS THIS A ONCE OFF OPPORTUNITY?
Our annual programming is built and adapted based on the needs of our community. While we desire to host a future Masterclass, this cannot be guaranteed. All programming is subject to change.
 

IS IT IN ENGLISH?
Yes. The Masterclass will be held in English. However, many of our team members and those leading the Masterclass speak several languages if you need translation.

CAN I GET A REFUND?
We understand that plans change and last-minute work and opportunities come up. If you need to cancel your registration more than two weeks before the start of the workshop, you will get the recording of all the sessions of that workshop. You will get the speaker’s contact information if you want to follow up with them directly. We will not be able to issue refunds.
