FAQ - The  Native and Everyday Projects Mentorship Program

The Program

How long and where will this program be held?
This program will be conducted online through e-mail exchanges and occasional Skype calls over the course of 2 years.

Is the program only in English?
Yes, the online material and language in which we communicate is English. The administrative team speaks fluent English, Spanish, and French. If you are selected for the program, you will have the opportunity to specify which languages you are most comfortable with so that we can try to pair you with a mentor who is fluent in those languages. However, we cannot guarantee that all mentees will receive mentorship in their first language.

Is the program cost-free?
Yes!

When does it start?
Beginning 2018

Applications

If I’m a photographer from Asia, Latin America, Africa, or The Middle East but live outside of the region, am I still eligible to apply?
If you were born in any of the countries in the regions above, we encourage you to apply. If not, we are hoping to launch a future program that would focus on the United States, Canada, Europe, and Oceania.

What should I submit for my portfolio?
We advise you to submit your strongest work. The program is largely focused on editorial and documentary photography, so we recommend submitting work that falls within those genres. For more information about submitting your portfolio, check out the portfolio section of the application.

Does my application and project proposal need to be completed in English?
Yes.

What is the definition of “emerging”?
“Emerging” is a loose term that could mean someone with less than 5 years of professional experience and/or someone who has had minimal exposure outside of their home country and wants to learn how to access an international market.

Can I apply if I’m a videographer?
Yes, but bear in mind that your portfolio and project should include still images. Our program is geared at editorial and documentary photography.

Can I give my preferences as to who I want my mentor to be?
If you are selected as a mentee, we will try to pair you with your mentor of choice. However we cannot guarantee that you will be coupled with that specific person.
